Built fromthe ground up.

Piper starts young horses and helps horses with gaps in their foundation, always working toward the same goal: a confident, responsive horse the owner understands when it comes home.

01 / Piper

Start with the horse
in front of you.

Piper Hall trains horses in Wittmann, Arizona, with a focus on young horses and horses that need their foundation rebuilt.

In 2025, Piper was selected for the AQHA Ranching Heritage Young Horse Development Program and placed sixth in the nation with Flying V Turquoise, a program horse donated by KT Cattle of Amado. Turquoise remains in training with Piper today.

Before asking for more, Piper looks for the part the horse does not understand. It might show up as a brace, a loss of focus, or a reaction that seems bigger than the question. The work is to make the answer clear, reward the right try, and build from there. The result should work for the owner—not only for Piper.

02 / The standard

A foundation
you can build on.

Whether Piper is starting a colt or helping a horse that needs a fresh start, she is working toward the same result: a horse that can think, respond, and stay rideable outside her arena.

  1. 01

    Mind

Stays present and can return to a thinking state when something gets difficult.

  2. 02

    Response

Understands clear cues and answers without becoming dull, anxious, or reactive.

  3. 03

    Body control

Shoulders, hindquarters, feet, direction, and speed can be influenced with intention.

  4. 04

    Confidence

Can process unfamiliar situations without losing the ability to think.

  5. 05

    Owner transfer

The owner can read the horse, reproduce the cues, and continue the work at home.

Every horse arrives with a different history. Their progress shows how Piper reads, adjusts, and builds the work over time.

Harley

Harley came in unsafe to ride. Piper rebuilt the basics until he could walk, trot, and canter on a loose rein with someone else in the saddle.

Famously Fabulous

Piper’s own horse, started from the first ride and developed through every stage — one of the clearest examples of built from the ground up.

Dallas

Dallas came in unrideable. Piper went back to the basics, rebuilt the missing pieces, and sent him home quiet, rideable, and mannerly.

04 / Training

A program built
around your horse.

Every horse starts with a fit review. Piper considers history, soundness, current challenges, and what the owner needs to do at home. Progress is documented, and owners ride before pickup.

Colt starting

From early handling through the first rides, the focus stays on understanding—not simply getting through a checklist.

  • Handling, groundwork, and preparation
  • First rides when the horse is ready
  • Owner lessons before handoff

Foundation rebuilds

For horses that have become anxious, sour, unsafe, or inconsistent—including off-track Thoroughbreds.

  • Honest evaluation of the starting point
  • Clear progress updates from the barn
  • Owner handoff and maintenance plan

Private youth lessons are available and scheduled separately from training horses. The Wittmann location is convenient for owners in the Phoenix West Valley.
